The Ghost Left the Machine Running: 18 Years of the Bitcoin Whitepaper

BitCorner News

On 31 October 2008 a stranger emailed nine pages to a cryptography list and later vanished. Eighteen years on, the network he started still needs no founder.

  • 31 Oct 2008: the paper "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System" is posted, 9 pages and 8 references.
  • 3 Jan 2009: first block, with a Times headline about bank bailouts inside it; 12 Jan: first transaction to Hal Finney.
  • April 2011: Satoshi's last known messages; no one has verified who he was, and the network never needed to know.

AI & quantum clips from the podcast, with Spanish subtitles

The moments of our conversations where guests talk about AI and quantum computing. Full episodes on YouTube.

Jeff Booth: AI and the price of robots

Computers get better than us at error-correcting, and the robots that do the work keep getting cheaper. His numbers: about $80,000 today, $2,000–$5,000 tomorrow. Spanish subtitles.

Bob Burnett: quantum computers and Satoshi's coins

Freeze them or leave them? Burnett leans to property rights and proposes his own idea: let only a small amount move per block, doubling with each halving. Spanish subtitles.
